Book Club SIG Meeting (Special Interest Groups)

The Book Club Special Interest Group meets every other month via zoom to discuss a book with a genealogy slant. Members are sent questions to review prior to discussing that month's book at the meeting. Book genres vary and may be non-fiction as well as fiction, including historical fiction and mysteries.
We meet on the 4th Tuesday of every other month.
Our March selection is Five-Finger Discount: A Crooked Family History written by Helen Stapinski.

Pennsylvania Research SIG (Special Interest Groups)
6:00 pm Shaler Public Library - 2nd Floor Conference Room
The focus of this group is on research and resources relating to Pennsylvania roots.
We meet once per month usually with a break in the summer as well as in December.
Our meetings are usually in the Conference Room. Occasionally a library event may necessitate a change of room or cancellation. Check the NHG website as well as Shaler Library's website, if unsure. There may be snow cancellations if Shaler Twp calls off schools (generally follows the Pittsburgh Schools cancellations for weather). |

Eastern European SIG Meeting (Special Interest Groups)
6:00 pm St. John's Lutheran Church, 311 Cumberland Road
The Eastern European Special Interest Group for NHG members encompasses Czech, Slovakia, The Balkans, Hungary, Poland, Galicia, Ukraine, as well as Italy, Russia, and Bohemia.
We currently meet at 6:00pm on the first Tuesday of each month. We discuss and share research information in a friendly environment.

NHG April 2025 Monthly Meeting (Meetings)

Join author Steven Cowie as he discusses his book When Hell Came to Sharpsburg. a story of The battle of Antietam, and Civil War Social History.
The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM on 21 April 2025. This meeting will be held in person at Christ Episcopal Church and as a virtual meeting via Zoom.

Steve Cowie earned a degree from California State University, Long Beach. As part of the Los Angeles film industry, he penned spec screenplays and sold his award-winning short film Lola to the Sundance Channel. A lifelong student of the Civil War, Cowie dedicated fifteen years to exclusively researching the Battle of Antietam. When Hell Came to Sharpsburg is his first book. He has also written for North & South Magazine, HistoryNet, Crossfire Magazine (UK), The Antietam Journal, and Civil War Times.
